NSW Environmental Trust Grant Recipients Announced (01/03/2010)
Member for Ballina, Don Page, is pleased to announce the successful recipients in the NSW Environmental Trust Grants 2009 program.
“There are 2 successful recipients this year – both for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Big Scrub,” Mr Page said.
“The Big Scrub Rainforest Landcare Group Inc. will receive $100,000 for the controlling of weeds that threaten the endangered lowland rainforest at 36 remnants of the Big Scrub,” he said.
“Ballina Shire Council will also receive $99,115 to regenerate and rehabilitate Big Scrub remnants at Killen Falls and Duck Creek, Alstonville.
“Congratulations to both successful applicants. Funding to protect and rehabilitate the precious Big Scrub is a win for the environment. It is pleasing to see that conserving this precious habitat is a priority for both of the successful applicants,” Mr Page said.
The NSW Environmental Trust was established to support exceptional environmental projects that do not receive funds from the usual government sources.
“The Big Scrub certainly fits into the category of exceptional environmental project,” Mr Page said.
