Foster Carers Celebrated On Far North Coast (20/07/2010)
Ballina MP, Don Page, says the foster carers on the Far North Coast are providing an invaluable service for our most precious members of the community – children.
“Foster carers are worth their weight in gold. They provide a safe and caring family environment for children in need,” Mr Page said.
“They are usually anonymous volunteers who give selflessly to provide a safe haven to children, who for various reasons, need a place to call home,” he said.
The Foster Carers Committee have organised a Christmas in July dinner to be held at the Ballina RSL on Saturday, 31st July 2010.
One of the aims of the evening is for members of the community who may be interested in becoming a foster carer, to come along and find out about being a carer from people with first hand experience.
“The enrichment that caring for a child brings is certainly an experience worth sharing and participating in,” Mr Page said.
“I congratulate the organisers of this event for providing an opportunity for foster carers in the community to connect with other carers and members of the wider community to share their experiences,” Mr Page said.
The evening will provide a social opportunity for foster carers and people involved in providing foster carers to get together. A wide range of organizations, both government and non-government, will be represented.
It is also an opportunity to say thank you to foster carers for the great work that they do.
“I encourage all foster carers in the local community to participate in what promises to be a very worthwhile event,” Mr Page said.
Tickets for the evening are $40 each and include a 3 course meal with entertainment provided by an Elvis tribute show. The evening kicks off at 6pm. For more information phone Tim Apps on 0412 734 454.
“On behalf of the Ballina Electorate I thank all the foster carers in our community for the magnificent work that they do. I hope they have a great night on the 31st July – they certainly deserve it.”
