Dolphins & Motorcycles The Focus of Pollies for Small Business Week ( 12/08/2008)
Seaside Moto Cycles and Byron Images were two businesses that received a ‘work-experience’ visit from the Shadow Minister for Small Business, Don Page this week as part of ‘Pollies for Small Business Week’.
As part of his ‘training’ Mr Page tried out several motorcycles.
“I am a big fan of motorbikes. I am a motorbike owner and I thoroughly enjoy riding through the spectacular scenery of the local area,” Mr Page said.
“Motorbikes are fuel efficient and help reduce carbon emissions,” he said.
“My plea to motorists is to be watchful for motorbikes because often motorists claim they don’t see motorbikes – which is very dangerous for the bike rider.”
“This week provides an opportunity for politicians to get hands on experience of the day-to-day issues facing small businesses. I’m keen to experience first hand how local businesses are travelling in the current economic climate,” he said.
“As Shadow Minister for Small Business this week is a good learning experience.
“At the same time, I can also provide advice on the role of State Government and areas of assistance that may be available to business operators,” Mr Page said.
Mr Page also worked with John D’Errey at Byron Images in Byron Bay. Byron Images is a photographic studio specialising in scenic photography of the local area.
Mr D’Errey’s most recent project is a DVD entitled ‘Water Light Passion’, which features whales, dolphins and other scenic attractions around Byron Bay.
“The DVD is an excellent tool for promoting this area and is well priced. John is to be commended for the effort he has put in over many years in making it,” Mr Page said.
“Byron Images is a small business that is affected by the tourism industry as well as the issues facing other types of small businesses,” Mr Page said.
“I enjoyed my time at both businesses and I’ve gained a greater understanding of the issues facing small business operators today.
“I appreciate the participation of both Seaside Moto Cycles and Byron Images,” Mr Page said.
