Don Page Mp Encourages Sporting Groups To Apply For Grants (18/11/2009)
Member for Ballina, Don Page MP has urged local sporting groups and councils to get their applications in for the revised NSW Government Sport and Recreation grants.
The Future Direction for Sport and Recreation Funding includes the following grant programs:
The Sport and Recreation Participation Program
- Has a focus on increasing regular and ongoing participation, volunteer, regional accreditation and training opportunities in sport, recreation and structured physical activity in a sustainable way.
- Open to NSW incorporated, community based not-for-profit organisations and NSW Local Government Authorities operating under the Local Government Act, 1993
- Grants from $500 - $10,000
- Closing Date 5pm, December 21
Disability Support Assistance Program
- The Disability Sport Assistance Program (DSAP) aims to improve opportunities and participation for people with a disability to participate in sport and physical activity and support community organisations with the capacity to provide opportunities to those with a disability.
- Provide accreditation or training to develop the skills of volunteers to increase the capacity of the organisation to enable sport and physical activity programs for people with a disability.
- Open to NSW incorporated, community based not-for-profit organisations that have the capacity to increase opportunities for people with a disability in New South Wales to participate in sport and physical activity within the community.
- Grants up to $10,000 for local or regional based programs and grants up to $20,000 for state-wide programs (State organisations only)
- Closing Date 5pm, December 21
Sport and Athletic Development Program
- Increase opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, sports leaders and volunteers in activities such as professional development and attendance in representative competition.
- Encourage innovative and flexible approaches to increasing opportunities and reducing barriers to participation and assist the industry change and grow in a sustainable manner and respond to emerging issues and challenges
- Assist disadvantaged or under-represented groups to better participate in sport and recreation.
- Open to NSW State sporting organisations and peak industry bodies that are recognised by Sport and Recreation through its Sport Development Program.
- Grants from $1,000 - $15,000 available
- Closing Date 5pm, December 21
Mr Page said a number of popular grants such as the Country Athletics Scheme, Country Coaches and Officials Travel Scheme and Women’s Sport Leaders Scholarship Program had now been consolidated into the above grants.
He said further information and a sample application for each of the programs is available at www.dsr.nsw.gov.au/grants or by phoning his electorate office on 6686 7522. Applications are made online and are open now.

Tweed Heads November 26, 6pm at the Tweed Civic Centre
