Government Creates More Bureaucracy To Deal With Red Tape ( 28/09/2007)
Shadow Minister for Regulatory Reform Don Page today condemned the Iemma Government’s farcical approach to reducing red tape which has seen a whole new office of bureaucrats created to assist Minister for Regulatory Reform, Joe Tripodi, reduce red tape.
The supposed Better Regulation Office has been established in the Department of Premier and Cabinet to assist Joe Tripodi and is currently advertising positions.
“It’s ludicrous that a Minister charged with the responsibility of reducing the state’s red tape and regulatory burden needs a group of new bureaucrats to assist him with his duties,” Mr Page said.
“I was amazed to see this office today advertising for more bureaucrats to add to an already bloated government bureaucracy”, he said.
“The burden of red tape and regulation on NSW businesses is a major reason for NSW’s poor economic performance. Excessive red tape is forcing businesses to move interstate.”
“It is estimated NSW businesses spend around 200 hours per year (or a total of five weeks per year) filling in forms and complying with regulation.
“What NSW businesses really need is less red tape – not more bureaucrats,” Mr Page said.
